Rob van der Meer is commercial product manager Growcoon at Maan BioBased Products. He responds to customer questions about the Growcoon. This time: Why does the Growcoon ensure faster throughput?
The Growcoon does indeed create a higher throughput versus other, commonly used systems. This is because the Growcoon for shoots and seeds better mimics the natural and comfortable environment that young plants are used to. The Growcoon is developed with the plant's requirements front and centre. Roots are no longer damaged when being pressed out of the trays.
In combination with the ideal micro-climate in the tray, rooting occurs faster. This means young plants are often potted up or delivered to the customer earlier. This time saving varies from 1 week to more than 10 weeks, depending on the crop.
Also plants that root with difficulty can now be handled more easily and much earlier without damaging the roots. Succulents are a good example of this. These crops can in most cases be delivered 3–5 weeks earlier.
Because the Growcoon is easy to remove from the tray, the rooted plugs can be processed more easily in an automated process.
Due to the excellent root development, batches feature a more uniform quality.
