At Nursery Fa. Bisschops, everything revolves around scale and precision. Each year, they grow millions of dahlia cuttings, which serve as starting material for tuber production destined primarily for export to the United States. In a process where every plant matters, Growcoon was introduced to reduce losses and streamline transplanting. The switch to plug trays filled with loose sand became possible thanks to Growcoon. This allowed the young plants to be potted earlier, more cleanly, and more efficiently without damaging the root ball. Meeting export requirements also became easier, as no peat residue or other substrate remained on the tubers.
"10 to 20 percent of the total number of cuttings are falling out now. We would like to reduce that number. In the cutting phase we make the most costs. So you want to get as much return from that as possible. Growcoon not only binds the root ball, but also has everything we need to drastically reduce the failure rate in this critical phase.We are now cultivating in a way that can also be automated.
